We’ll cut right to the chase: if you’re a service-based business such as a salon, barbershop, or spa, you need to have a website.

Having a strong online presence not only boosts your credibility, it can also drive more bookings. When Genbook asked consumers how they prefer to book appointments online, the top answer was from the business’ website.

That being said, a website alone won’t cut it. You also need to make sure that it’s driving more bookings for your business. And the best way to do that is to have a “Book Now” button.

That’s exactly what we’ll discuss in this post. In the following paragraphs, you’ll learn all about the Book Now button and how to add it to your site. We’ll also share examples of these buttons in action to get you inspired when creating your own booking links.

Let’s get started!

What is the Book Now button?

Its name says it all: the Book Now button is a hyperlinked button that directs your clients to your scheduling page so they can book an appointment. For any service-based business, this button is the main call to action (CTA). It’s THE link that you want people to click, which is why you need to make sure it’s prominently displayed on your website.

Why is it important?

The Book Now button streamlines the scheduling process in your business. Since it allows your customers to schedule their appointments online, your clients won’t have to call your business if they want to pay you a visit.

When used correctly, the Book Now button dramatically reduces the time and effort you spend on admin tasks. So rather than playing phone tag or manually penciling in appointments, you can let your customers book on their own. This leads to more time savings, less stress, and happier clients.

How to add a Book Now button to your website

There are two main considerations when you want to add a Book Now button to your site. They are:

  • Your appointment scheduling software. The process for creating and adding a Book Now button varies slightly from one software provider to the next. If you already have an online booking software in your business, get in touch with your vendor and ask how you can display the button on your site (Note: if you’re a Genbook user, you’ll find step-by-step instructions below.)
  • Your website platform / site builder. Your website platform may have some specific instructions on how to get the booking button up and running. Again, when in doubt, talk to your vendor or browse their support center for instructions.

That being said, if you’re a Genbook user, you can easily add the Book Now button by following these steps:

Step 1: Go to your Settings page to get the button code

You’ll find the instructions and button code in your Settings (accessed via the gear icon at the top right of the screen).

Scroll down to the “Connecting” section and click the “Book Now Button”.

Step 2: Choose your button size and grab the HTML code

You’ll have several button sizes to choose from, along with some HTML code, which you will need to paste into the source view of your site.

Step 3: Paste the HTML code onto your website

Simply pasting the code onto your site as though it were text will not work. Here’s what the source view of a website would look like:

The above are general instructions. We also have articles with instructions specific to various site builders. Click on the website builder that you use, or plan to use, in order to see full instructions:

Book Now button examples

Now that we’ve covered the importance of the Book Now button and how to add it to your website, let’s take a look at the button in action. Here are some of the great buttons that we found in the wild:

Classy and neutral

Here’s a lovely example from Kristin Kincaid. Her Book Now button is simple, classy, and perfectly matches the look and feel of her site. We like that she placed the button front and center on her homepage, so it’s one of the first things people see when they land on her site. Plus, she picked a neutral color that looks good in various backgrounds and settings.

Keep this example in mind when creating your booking button. If you plan to use it with different backgrounds, keep the theme neutral so the button always looks great.

Incorporating the brand’s color

Missy Moran, which provides beauty and wellness services, takes a different approach. Her Book Now button perfectly matches her brand’s color palette, so the link feels native to the page.

This is an excellent example if your logo or website uses a bold color. Explore the color options for your booking button then choose the one that matches the dominant shade of your brand.

Black and white

This next one comes from Organic Tan Kelowna. They decided to use a black and white button with the text “Book Online”. And because most of Organic Tan’s website incorporates light colors, the black Book Now button really pops!

Use Organic Tan’s booking button as inspiration if your website has a light-colored theme (e.g., white, light grey, silver, etc.). If you want your Book Now button to stand out, use black or any other dark, bold color.

A button on every section of the website

Now let’s check out Tans by Kait. She’s using a grey Book Now button that perfectly complements her color palette. And if you look at the screenshot closely, you’ll see that she has two buttons on the page. There is a booking button on her main homepage image, and she also has another one on the top header.

We love this because it means that the booking button is visible on every page of the site, and Kait’s clients can quickly view her scheduling portal no matter where they are on her website.

Follow Kait’s example when adding your own Book Now button. In addition to having it on the homepage, put the button in a place where it’s visible all over the site.

Beyond your website: other places that can have a Book Now button

Having a booking button on your site is essential, but remember that it’s not the only place where people can access your appointment portal. Your clients are also on social media and Google, so once you have your website button up and running, make sure you have a booking link on other places online.
