Tereneka was so patient and professional. My daughter has very fine tangle prone hair, I brought her in because her hair was extremely tangled. So bad...ly I was worried we would need to cut it all off. Tereneka gave us options and was able to get it untangled. She also styled it so nicely and the price was unbeatable. Lovvveeeddddd my appointment here!!!! I’d been having my hair braided down and just wearing wigs and as a person that’s natural, it was a lot of work ...that had to be done on my hair but she got me together with a nice trim. We laughed and talked and discussed A LOT about healthy and alternative eating and foods anddddddd about taking better care of my hair! The vibes in here are super chill as well and very cozy. Buyer Beware: This review objectively accounts for events that transpired while receiving services at Alabasta last week. This review is not a reflec...tion of the personhood of the staff or intent to provide adequate services; they are lovely people. My appointment started with a consultation with Teraneka. I explicitly expressed my desire to have a slightly graduated bob that hit the back of my neck, which in its curly state is a looser curl pattern, and the back grows much faster and requires intermittent leveling. I always wear my hair as a wash-and-go. My instruction was to even out the back and keep my length, which was less than an inch past my shoulders, in its dry state. Unfortunately, I received a drastic sharp inverted bob, which resulted in about 4-5 inches of hair removed across the crown, resulting in a necessary Big Chop to salvage. Please note the photo before the Big Chop was complete. Teraneka washed and conditioned my hair, and she proceeded to cut the back portion while wet. She went on to dry my hair to blend the cut, taking off weight on the sides after it was dry. As you can see in the picture, it looks as though I have a gaping hole in the back. I am not a barber/ stylist; however, per the photo, these are two drastically different hairstyles. I did not know this is a licensed technique to cut only the back portion when wet and then completely dry the hair to blend and shape; the entire head is usually cut when wet not a bifurcated approach. I was utterly devastated. At this juncture, she enlisted the help of her colleague Shan to repair the cut, which ultimately resulted in a Big Chop. As I sat with tears in my eyes, I was told, “It will grow back, and you will have a nice shape in two months,” “It’s only hair, but I know how black women feel about their hair,” and a host of other platitudes. I was appalled and stunned at the pure disregard for my orientation. To surmise my experience, “it will grow back; it is only hair” is not only patronizing but completely myopic. I am not opposed to a cropped hairstyle; however, I am averse to a lack of professionalism and accountability. Teraneka never uttered a word when it was evident that an imminent repair was necessary. I was shepherded to another person to fix the cut without a peep from her for the remainder of the visit. Please make your decision to seek the services of this establishment with caution and do your due diligence if you have non-processed hair. I do not want another woman to be subjected to the same treatment and results as I encountered. Show more

It is our sincere apologies that your experience was not favorable this time. You've received services multiple times without any problems or concerns - yet this time, your expectations were not met. No dollar amount or words of encouragement can compensate for having your hair cut shorter than communicated - yet, the honorable thing to do at that time, was to comp the service and shape your hair so that it grows out properly over time. As far as disregarding your feelings- that was not the intent. You were upset (which was warranted) - Shan was calmly trying to console you - your words were "I know, it's only hair." That's not our approach here, your feelings are valid and that was expressed and communicated. We are not above rebuke or correction, but please, be fair and honest with your feedback on this public plateform. Accountability was taken and remedied right away as best we could. Again- we apologize for your experience.
