Wooden Boats and Umiaq Ride
Maria Johnson - Apr 22, 2017
I am a Montessori teacher with 20 children with ages ranging from 6 to 12. All my kids loved the boat-building activity, and the parents enjoyed helping the younger children to bore holes and hammer nails. We all rode the umiaq, counting 1-rest, 2-rest, 3-rest, and 4-rest then going into paddles-up position or just enjoying the beautiful sunny day we were gifted with yesterday. The children were gleeful as they pulled their wooden boats in the pond and they were tired but happy on our trip back.
Lesson in a Blanchard Junior sailboat
MikeT - Apr 21, 2017
Went down to the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union and took a one-hour sailing lesson in a 20' Blanchard Junior, a class of wooden boats that was built during the 1930's, 40's, and 50's. The Banchard is a racehorse compared to the little prams that I learned to sail in years ago - it's reasonably stable, very fast, and turns on a dime. It handled like a dream, and I learned lots and had a ton of fun!
Boats, Boats, Boats!
Carrie Goetz - Apr 12, 2017
We had a great time. The weather was awesome and this helped the overall flow of our morning. Blant (spelling?) the docent was well spoken and understood how to talk to kindergarteners. The boat building was by far the highlight of the trip. The children were engaged and proud of their finished boats. We would like to have had the opportunity to ride on the boats. We would be happy to pay extra for this!

Sailing in the rain is not that bad. It has good location. They provide rain coat and pants. Pants are very big
