    Fantastic appointment :)

    I have met with Elaine and Homayun - they're AMAZING. They take the time to figure things out with me and lets me know step-by-step what to do next. Beyong the academic help they've given me, they also asks me about my personal life (stress, etc.) which is why I keep coming back :) I know that they're truly interested in me as a PERSON, and not just as a student.

    Advising Appointment

    I met with Elizabeth, and she was very helpful and kind. She helped me with my problem and proceeded to offer me good advice for other aspects of my education. I was very happy with my meeting.

    excellent!

    Arrived almost 30 minutes early to my appointment was seen early :) Met with Elaine regarding my enrollment issue, which was quickly resolved. She was very friendly and knowledgeable and took a genuine interest in my personal studies and progress and what my goals are. great visit :)

    Good stuff

    Had a meeting with Homayun (sorry if that spelling is way off), it went great, I was late but he accommodated me anyway. He gave me good, straightforward instructions on how to fix my problem. It was a good advising experience.

    Wonderful service

    I had a meeting with one of the academic advisers and I got there 10 minutes before my appointment, and the girl in the front desk knew my name, me to take a seat, and called me shortly. She was very nice, and said that I can go inside now. Thank you so much, she also helped me open my mailbox when I was having trouble opening it. She has a nice personality, I'm going to make sure to say hi to her every time I see her.

    Amazing service

    The girl at the front desk is so sweet! She is very friendly to everyone! It must be frustrating working the front desk and the mail room but somehow she does it! I needed help with my mail box (didn't know how to open it) and she was so willing to help even though she was working on other things. She also helps people quickly which is good because personally, I, am very impatient so I don't like to wait very long. Thank you again mail room girl!

    Horrible service

    The girl behind the counter told me the only people who I could see for my advising appointment either weren't there or the provost. After I told her multiple times that I had an appointment she kept refusing to help me. When I went to look up my appointment confirmation email on my phone she immediately helped the next person who came in with his appointment.

    elaine was immensely helpful! i recommmend anyone to book a meeting with her! i am sure the other counselors are just as nice as her. i feel comfortable approaching her and talking to her and she helps you right away with any questions you have:)

    I walked into Elaine's office not exactly knowing what to expect but I can honestly say that I am happy that I finally made an appointment to see her. Elaine has such a calming spirit that makes you calm down and think about the decisions you are making now and how they might affect you in the future. I plan on seeing her again soon!

    The only advisor I've ever had that made me feel like I was talking to a friend not an advisor! I love Elizabeth! She was so friendly and approachable. She offered great advice and made appointments to meet with me a few more times and she really shows her concern! Love her and totally going to stick to seeing her every quarter!

    Advising at Oakes is fab! Ms. Kihara goes out of her way to help, is very knowledgeable about everything---and what she doesn't have an immediate answer for, she will find--then and there. The front desk personnel is also exceptionally friendly. Highly recommend Elaine and Oakes Advising for residents.

    As an off-campus transfer student, I am not fully involved with Oakes but I did like the advisers. They were very friendly and helpful. I wish they had more services for transfer students though!

    Exceptional Counselor!!

    Elaine Kihara is always so attentive and detailed in her counseling-- I love it!! She has really helped me come a long way and now as I move forward and declare my major I am beyond trilled. Thank you for your guidance Elaine.

    Beautiful scenery & people

    My first year at Oakes was a warm experience: It was a family away from home. My good friends now are still people from Oakes. I also think that it is one of the most beautiful colleges on campus, with it's amazing view of the monterrey bay from the dorms. I have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets from the lower lawn and will definitely miss this place after I graduate. Overall, an amazing experience of my undergraduate career.

    Friendly People

    The people here are really friendly & it feels like a close little community. I definately don't regret getting placed into this college at UCSC. :) They have great views of the monterey bay from the dorms and the lower lawn is great for just chilling on a sunny day. Also the dorm sizes are bigger than most of the other colleges around campus. The only down falls I'd say are that, with the budget deficit going on right now, we aren't exactly the most funded college on campus.

    Good as always...

    What can I say that hasn't already been said? I always get the best information from my advisor, Elaine Kihara, and leave knowing what I need to take care of...or knowing my questions/issues have been taken care of after I leave her office. This particular time was no different.

    Extremely Helpful Advising

    I was able to figure out everything that I wanted to. All my questions were answered and the advisers were very attentive and helpful. I recommend going in asap and having a talk with any of them!

    Advising

    I went in confused and came out with the information I needed and felt so much better. If you are not sure in anything you are doing at UCSC, go to an advisor and just talk and see where it leads to. Its not as scary as it seems.

    Positive Community

    I like Oakes because it is a positive community. It seems like everyone that lives there is one big family. There is a family-like feel. & Advising is so helpful. They thoroughly answered all of my questions. I love living at Oakes.

    Advisory Meeting

    The services provided by the school are top notch. I was well attended by an adviser of the college and was in and out before i even noticed. The advisers are awesome and know exactly how to help you in anything academic related. i highly recommend that people take advantage of the resources.

    Skip the middle man

    This will be the last time I see an Oakes college adviser. They are all very nice, but the only information I've ever gotten is where to go to get my questions answered, because they never know themselves.

    Great advisors

    Much more time efficient to sign up online rather the in person. This makes it possible to sign up from anywhere on campus if an advisor meeting must be arraigned.

    Elaine Kihara is a phenomenal counselor!

    I have had the pleasure to know Elaine Kihara for about 5 years now. My journey to return to school has been a tough but steady paced one. It is through Elaine's patience and careful guidance that I have moved forward. Genuine, patient and truly caring are just some of her wonderful qualities as a person and counselor. Thank you Elaine !

    Far Away but Awesome

    Many aspects of Oakes College is great. Our dining hall is open longer than most others and we have an ice cream machine. Unfriendly people are few and far between and there's a real sense of camaraderie. The only bad thing about Oakes is that it's the farthest away from everything, the bookstore, the gym, and most of my classes. But I consider the walk pleasant most of the time. Oh, and I love the Oakes Writing Center, the tutoring is really helpful!

    graduation

    the guy that i met up with was very helpful, he not only informed me of the number of credits i had and confirmed that i was on track to graduate on time, even as a junior transfer student planing ot study aborad my senior year, he also pointed me in the right direction for graduate school and more imporatntly a career. He's an awesome guy super laid back but insightful and exteremely helpful

    Ooooooakesss

    I absolutely love Oakes :) it has very home like environment and is very unique to UCSC. Its very peaceful and has a great cafe ! the apartments are nice too

    Oakes College is AWESOME!

    To me, Oakes is like a home away from home. Everybody is very kind and considerate. Also, advising is extremely helpful and the dining hall is nice. The dorms are roomy and I can sleep in peace. :)

    Advising

    Extremely supportive and essential. At first I did not recognize the importance of Advising and what academic support they can offer but now that I meet with my academic team on a quarterly basis, Their help is indispensable.

    Advising just got easier!

    I'm not even a UCSC student anymore and i wish i was because of how easy it is to set up an appointment with the Oakes advising! they need to have this at the UC i'm at right now.. OMG like!

    OOOAAAKKKEEEESSS!

    I love Oakes, it's like my home away from home! One huge family. I love how the dorms are so spacy compared to other colleges and it's so easy to get around. Finally, the college is beautiful. I would pick this college over any other one.

    Homayun is always extremely helpful in answering any question I have and giving great advice to keep me up to date on my academics. He is very approachable and friendly; truly cares about the students. Thank you for all your help!

    Better study lounges for Oakes Students!!

    Oakes is very community oriented. The cafe is great! However, I am unhappy with the study rooms that are provided for Oakes students. I think the study lounges could be improved. The rooms are small, dirty, has poor lighting, and can get cold. The furniture is also old and could be cleaner. Oakes students deserve better! In advising, I am so glad to have met Homayun. He really cares about the students. He gives me the best advice on classes, aboard programs and so much more!

    OAKES ADVISING!!

    Very convenient way to communicate with the counseling office. Saves time and it's easy to make appointments! You get to see the availability of the time slots so that it will be convenient for you to meet with someone. The counselors are AWESOME and are very helpful. They have been a huge help to my success at UCSC.

    Oakes!!

    Oakes College is one of the best colleges at UC Santa Cruz. It's quiet, the people are nice and friendly, and it's an overall great college. The downside is that it's far from the rest of campus (or might seem) but once you get used to it, it's great.

    Feels like home

    Coming back to Oakes feels like home to me. The people there are friendly and I like the dining hall. The dorms are nice and I can study and do homework in peace.

    Advising

    Advising is so helpful. As a transfer student, they helped me get up to speed to graduate. They answered all of my questions, and looked up the ones they didn't know.
