    Pretty Handsome Optometry

    I have been a patient of Dr. Spencer Ritenour (Spencer) for three years now and I find him to be very intelligent, extremely capable, thorough and a good listener. I never have to wait, as with other docs. His exams are quick and painless and Spencer gives good, helpful feedback. I highly recommend Pretty Handsome Optometry.

    Excellent eye exam but....

    The doctor was excellent, and the eye exam was very thorough. I found the selection of frames too limited and the glasses/lenses I ended up with seemed very expensive when everything was totaled up. The office could use some sprucing up.... had the look of a pop-up eyeglass shop. But if you're looking for a good eye doc who gives you quality time and good advice, this is a good place to check out.

    Wonderful service at Pretty Handsome Optometry

    I highly recommend having your eyes examined with Dr. Spencer Ritenour. He takes great care of his clients, conducting very thorough eye exams and patiently answering any questions you may have. The frame selection is small but truly lovely and Dr. Ritenour is very good at helping to narrow down the looks that suit your face/brow shape and personality. You're in VERY good hands at Pretty Handsome Optometry!

    Great exam and doctor

    The doctor was extremely informative and helped educate me on eye care. I've been wearing glasses since the fourth grade, so it was great to learn something new! He went above and beyond to make sure any questions I had were answered and could not have been more helpful.

    Great Experience

    Dr. Handsome (Dr. Ritenour) was so friendly and helpful when I was trying to describe how dry my eyes get when wearing contacts. He proposed a few solutions and let me try out some new contacts to see what works. I will be returning to him in the future.

    Goes above and beyond, best comprehensive checkup!

    I have been going to Dr. Ritenour for 2 years and would not go anywhere else. At each of my visits, he really takes the time to explain what he found in the exams, and how it compares with last time's exam-- giving a real overview of trends and calling out any concerns or improvements. He is thorough and takes the time to think through what I really need, without being the least bit pushy. Best experience I've ever had in the 15 years I've been wearing glasses/contacts!

    attention to detail, quality products!

    Great appt. with Dr. Ritenour... he spent time explaining what worked best with my prescription and what frames worked for both reading and progressive lenses. Took time to explain much more than previous doctors, and prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality. I'll be back!

    Excellent visit

    Friendly, professional, and efficient, I had an excellent visit. The doctor took time to answer my questions thoroughly after the exam, and picking out frames was a very relaxed and (as others have mentioned) low-pressure experience. Extremely pleasant experience, highly recommended.

    Good Experience!

    I have had my glasses about a week and I love them. From the initial exam all the way to actually getting my new glasses fitted just so...the experience was never less than quite pleasant. And educational too! Dr. Ritenour spends the time to explain things! Go! You'll love the way you look and what you can see!

    Fantastic optometrist!

    Excellent!

    Dr. Ritenour made me feel comfortable right away; I enjoyed chatting with him throughout my appointment. Pretty Handsome Optometry was actually fun- who knew? I felt listened to, accepted, and was in and out quickly. Definitely recommend!

    I can see clearly now..

    A little history - my eyesight has never been great, and I've had glasses/contacts since I was a teen. Dr. Ritenour wanted to get to the root issue of what was hindering me and how he could help me see better, it felt genuine. Turns out I had never been corrected for severe astigmatism. I'm happy to say that I'm seeing much better! Seeing better also improves your posture, I'm not squinting and leaning in all the time and better posture relieves stress on your neck and back..need I say more.

Dr. Ritenour is great at his job and I could tell really loves what he does, which shows in his work as well as workmanship.     Savvy and friendly doc!

    Dr. Ritenour is very friendly, thorough, and helpful. In addition to providing a positive experience, he knows a lot about the latest research and technologies in lenses. The office has a great selection of chic lenses. I have really bad eyesight so I'm always concerned about the "coke-bottle" effect when I wear my glasses, but the Eco pair I got at Pretty Handsome Optometry are beautiful and I get lots of compliments on them.

    My first time at Pretty Handsome, and I truly loved my experience. The eye exam was quick and easy, and when it was time to choose my eye glasses, Dr. Retenour really took his time t help me choose the best frames for me. :)

    Dr. Ritenour is truly refreshing. In a time when most doctors (across all disciplines) want to get you in and out as quickly as possible, he takes the time to sit and speak to you in detail about your issues. He makes sure that you are informed and understand what is going on. He has a very easygoing nature and a sweet personality that is very much appreciated.

    perfect service

    This place is like a little boutique for your seeing needs and stock only frames from companies that make only glasses. The service here is impeccable from understanding the type of frames and lenses you need to giving you aesthetic advice. Stay away from the chains and come here for the attention your eyes deserve. My only criticism is that they don't have a huge selection but they do appear to stock quality.

    Excellent Service

    The Doctor is a delight...Young, very efficient and knowledgable... I never had such a thorough exam before... the office is undergoing renovation so it seems like a Lab right now, but I did not find it or anything objectionable... I will absolutely recommend Pretty handsome Optometry

    All I know is the personal service

    The guy has the best chair-side (or bedside) manner I've ever experience from any kind of doctor. He's efficient without seeming like he's in a rush to get you out the door. He listens to what you have to say and seems interested. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is what I'm ignorant about. Maybe close to a grand is normal in NYC for an appointment, new glasses with understated frames and hi-tech lenses, and a year's supply of contacts.

    Friendly, informative and he loves his job

    Dr. Ritenour was a pleasure. He explained everything he was doing throughout the appointment. My questions were thoroughly answered. He didn't try to pressure me into getting things I didn't want, and he was very gracious and generous with his advice about frames when I asked for his help. I will definitely return!

    A wonderful optometrist who deserves extensive praise and all the accolades he could receive. Different amongst the rest; when trying to match up my future pair of glasses to my everyday look, he took out his Ipad and starting going through the online Jcrew catalogue with me to help narrow down my choices. Very patient, even drew me a diagram to further explain what was going on inside my eyes. A true anomaly within the doctoral sphere.

    Best optometry experience ever

    I've never had such a pleasant experience with an optometrist. Dr. Ritenour spent over an hour with me helping me choose new frames that would work with my progressive RX and my lifestyle. He also took the time to explain the difference between the various lenses available to me and offered several price points, depending on which options were most important to me. Highly recommended!

    Professional, sincere, and just... GREAT!

    I went to the office to get a regular eye exam and I must say it was a terrific experience. Dr. Ritenour was kind, considerate, and he took me through all the tests with concern and ease and made me feel really comfortable. I highly recommend him to everyone, there's a million eye stores in the city, but few like Pretty Handsome Optometry!

    Thorough & Professional

    This is the opposite of the 10 minute eye exam followed by "glasses in an hour". Dr. Ritenour is really tuned in and I'm seeing better than ever with the tweaks he made to my Rx.

    Personal attention

    It was a nice small place, it was clean and not too cramped like some places are. I feel like some exam rooms I have been in are smaller than my closet, but not so here. Am very happy with my experience and would definitely go back.

    Overpriced

    Listen, the guy is nice and all and the glasses were pretty cool, but I've never paid that much for anything in my life. Honestly, pretty sure it can't cost him half of what he's charging to get me those glasses. So, be aware, the deal does NOT include the glasses and the amount it takes of the total is seriously pathetically negligible. Let with a bad taste, but if you're rich, go ahead (but if you're rich I don't know why you're using a coupon anyway).

    Great Approach to Eye Care

    Very friendly and accomodating doctor. I have never been to an optomotrist before who wanted me to choose between different options (using one contact lens, using two contacts, using one of those with reader drugstore glasses, or using graduated eyeglasses). This way I will know all of my options and I appreciate knowing them so I can select what works best for me. It is much better than other offices that just tell me what is best for me.

    Dr. Ritenour is a caring, dedicated, highly knowledgable optometrist who patiently and thoroughly answered all of my questions and concerns. In addition to my very positive experience with him, I also have to mention that his office is welcoming, comforting, and (dare I say) stylish and chic. I have already posted how happy I was with this experience on Facebook, and cannot recommend Pretty Handsome Optometry enough!

    Fantastic, informative and thorough

    My appointment with Dr. R was the best eye exam I have ever had. He explained each procedure and answered all my questions -and believe me there were many. He even solved a pesky eye discharge issue that I have due to seasonal allergies. And to top it off he said that I should get drugstore readers as my sight issues are so slight, and easily corrected without expensive lenses. Now that is honesty you don't always find in NYC. I am a big fan and will send everyone I know his way!

    Pretty Handsome is Phenomenal.

    After years of horrible eye care, Pretty Handsome Optometry finally changed my fate. Dr. Ritenour is the best I have ever had. Incredibly attentive, he explained more to me about the eye exam process and my eyes than I have ever heard before. He is also incredibly motivated to make sure you can see the absolutely best. He and his staff are also fixing up my frames of which I have never been able to see out of! Thankful for a team who cares about their patients. Don't miss the same opportunity!

    Great experience

    I stopped by on Friday and my experience was amazing. Dr. R was very engaging and talked me through my first eye exam by explaining what each machine did. He also was very thorough and took his time so I never felt rushed. I would definitely highly recommend him and come back again. Thanks again!

    spencer was friendly and professional. I particularly appreciated that he allowed me to take a long time to make sure I was selecting the right frames. ALSO that I did not even feel pressured to buy frames from him after the exam...he has confidence in what he does, and the selection of styles is contemporary and stylish, so I did end up with a light prescription and a pair of really cool specs!

    pretty personal

    If all healthcare could be as invested and concered as Dr. R we wouldn't have the problems we have today. It was so nice to have a dr. that explained every part of the check up, got to know you on a personal level and then proceeded to follow up with you after the appointment. I will cont to rec'd Dr. R to anyone I meet in need of an optometrist.

    This optometrist is an artisan

    Dr. R is passionate about eye care, his enthusiasm for his work is infectious! He precisely explains every step of the eye exam, discussing the hows and whys of each step. Instead of feeling like an account, I was treated like a person (this is the first time I've had an experience like this at any health care center!) Dr. R also took the time to help me choose frames that flattered my face and fit in with my lifestyle (I wear them for work and occasionally for going out).

    Excellent, Thorough, and Friendly

    Dr. Ritenour is an optometric god-send. I hadn't been to the doctor's in 4 years and he scolded me not once. He also is the most thorough eye doctor I've seen (pun intended). He explains everything and gives you an excellent idea of how your eyes are really doing. Plus, if you're lucky, he'll pull out his record player and put on some Billy Idol for you.

    Worth Every Penny

    My girlfriend sent me a link to Genbook for a coupon to get my new prescription and to have an annoying symptom checked out in my eye. Spencer was by far the most informative and interested Optician I have encountered professionally. I was treated exceedingly well and for the first time understood every step of my exam.When I left the office I was at ease with where I was with my eye health and what to expect in the future. Nice frames. True quality.

    Not your usual optometrist

    My trip to pretty handsome optometry was amazing. I had a lot of preconceptions about an optometrist being an old guy asking you to read lines from a wall. Dr. Ritenour is a young guy with a great attitude and some state of the art equipment. He is the courier, makes the lenses in house and you just leave feeling like you're in good hands.

    Blurry Botox Vision

    I had a pretty bad experience with botox and Spencer knew all about the symptoms which made me feel at ease when he explained to me that the botox got in the eye muscle and will eventually go away. Good service. Highly recommend.

    Just Perfect!

    It was over 3 years since my last eye exam and I found Dr. R personable, friendly and professional. An excellent doctor that I'm already recommending to other friends. He took his time with the exam and was thorough. Even thought he had great frames to choose from he wasn't trying to sell me on a new pair. Loved the experience!

    PRETTY FABULOUS!!

    First of all the office is not like any other optometrist's. The feeling is that of walking into an inviting living room with an area for great. Then you meet the pretty handsome optometrist which is like meet a friend for a chat at the fireplace. He invites you into his examination room all the while asking about you, your day and explaining the machines. The room has personality.He explains what the really cool machines are doing. You leave knowing you're in some pretty good hands:-) He cares.

    I found Dr. Ritenour to be a fantastic Doctor. You can tell he really enjoys his work and takes the time to explain the tests and diagnosis. Also they have your lenses done locally if you need a new prescription.

    Simply the best optometry service

    Dr. Ritenour enjoys his work and explains everything he does during the exam. Great guys and very patient. They provide a very welcoming setting and the service is superb. The price was much better than where I used to go to. I won't be going anywhere else.

    Great for a First-Timer

    Going to Dr. Ritenour's office is more like going to a comforting spa than the clinical offices I have heard about from friends. Soft music and candles in the reception area, and plenty of time taken to explain and reassure. He is clearly not in it to make a quick buck, but to give good sight to people! Yas is knowledgeable and kind, too. A great team, who made my first eye-exam more like a caring treatment.

    Best Optometrist Ever

    I haven't had my eyes checked in years, so I was glad to be in such good care. Dr. Ritenour explained why he was shining lights in my eyes and exactly what was going on throughout my entire exam, putting me at ease. I also snagged an awesome pair of frames that are way better than my old ones!

    Run, don't walk to Dr. R and Yas

    Dr. R is one of the most caring doctors I've ever met. He really listens and takes time to get a prescription right. I didn't feel rushed; I felt like I could talk through my eye history; and I knew he was absolutely invested in his work and giving me the best eyesight he could. He also talked me through every step of the exam and explained what he was looking for and why. Yas the optician is also awesome and has put together a great selection of frames to choose from.
