I met with Amanda Kennedy and she was fantastically helpful, super nice, and she even gave me her card and advised me to email her with any further questions I might have. The only reason I'm only giving my review four stars actually doesn't have to do with her at all, but rather with the fact that the appointments I made online (a week in advance for each) kept getting cancelled the day of, which was intensely frustrating. The interview I was trying to prepare for had a set date, after all.

Yesterday, I went in simply to get a signature for my internship paperwork but I gained so much more. It wasn't as encouraging as I thought, took away a lot of my confidence and when I admitted my vulnerabilities I felt almost rejected. There were some helpful tips and questions asked though, and I was encouraged to come in in the future for more help, but was told there wasn't much that could be done right then.

I recently attended a workshop held by Career Services on the topic of graduate school and how to apply, what financial resources are available, what resources the school has to help, and reasons to go or not go to graduate school, along with some of the factors to consider like in-state or making sure the school has a specialist in your interest area. It was an extremely informative and helpful workshop, and I look forward to attending more on other topics.

I had a very bad experience with Career Services. I made my appointment 3 days in advance for the late afternoon. When I arrived I felt like the counselor rushed me. I wanted to go over my resume and he started rattling things off and marking it up without stopping to make sure that I understood what he was saying. I often felt insulted by his comments and he rushed me out the door in less than 10 minutes. Overall, very bad experience.

Gary Johnson gave me very thorough and good advice. He presented it in a concise and understandable format that led me to believe that he valued my time. As an alumni, I was about to pay $300 for a resume critique service. I met with Crystal Sehlke who was extremely helpful and gave me a lot of great feedback. She also gave me a lot of informative resource materials that I was able to take with me.

I really appreciated the personalized attention from the Career Services at UMW. They guided me in the right direction, I didn't know where to start with a cover letter for the internship and I got step by step feedback. I appreciate that the Career Services got to know me personally, my interests and was thinking ahead for the followup and other help that I may need. Gary Johnson helped me find places to see different career options within the realm of my interest and experience. He made me feel very welcome, got me started, and invited me to come back. This was the most important part to me, because I often feel like I am taking up too much of peoples time, but he made sure to let me know I am always welcome. I will keep going back through graduation!

I found it hard to work with Crystal and was put off when she criticized me for not bringing in a printed copy of my resume...which I did not know to do. She had some good tips and templates of resumes and cover letters but I would have rather worked with someone else.

I met with a counselor to revamp my resume for use in internship and job finding. The counselor was very helpful in editing my resume to make it effective and presentable. She helped me with general resume formatting and with creating specific categories to best outline my achievments.

I had no idea what I wanted to do when I went to talk to Gary. He pointed me in the right direction by giving me a bunch of great sources of information to start me out, and encouraged me to come back after I had completed the MyPlan assessment and looked into some of the other resources.

I went to Laura with absolutely no knowledge on how to make a internship worthy resumee. She provided excellent advice and multiple samples/hand outs. The career center is an asset to all students. Most people have to pay for this service!

I scheduled an appointment to go over a few resumes and cover letters, as well as to get some insight on job searching. In less than a half hour, all resumes and cover letters had been critiqued, and I had been shown how to use the job search database which is a part of the Career Service's website. More students should use this service, provided free of charge, for all of their career-related questions.

It was very easy to use. I liked that I didn't have to call in to do it and I really liked the reminders. I also liked that I could choose who I wanted to work with without feeling awkward having to tell the person at the front desk that I don't want a certain individual.
